The course provides an overview of the sensory and motor systems of the nervous system responsible for regulating movement. Sensory systems including somatosensory, proprioception, visual, and auditory systems, and how these systems relate to movement, are discussed considering their fundamental roles in motor control. Discussion of the sensory system focuses on peripheral, as well as central brain physiology for processing each type of sensory signal. By the end of the class, students will have a broad understanding of how the human brain controls the movements and how those systems can be improved by training.
Course keywords: 動作神經科學(movement neuroscience), 感覺動作系統(sensorimotor system), 動作技能(motor skills), 神經生心理學方法(psychophysiological methods), 動作控制(motor controls) The course includes the following topics: - Neurophysiological basis of human movement - The hierarchy of sensorimotor system: Gross anatomy, afferent and efferent projections, somatosensory/motor maps. - Assessments and examinations of sensory and motor performances - Psychophysiological perspectives of motor control and motor learning - Characteristics of sensory and motor functions in typically and atypically developing children and adults(e.g., developmental coordination disorder, Parkinson's disease, stroke) - Effect of different training/intervention (e.g., motor skills, musical instruments, sports, physical activity) on physical, physiological or psychological changes (from behavioral and neurological perspectives) of sensorimotor function across the life span.
